Re: Where to start

As a kid, I went out with a bunch of friends and played ball. Our 'coaching' was imitating the big leaguers we saw on tv. We all developed hitting by trial and error, or whatever seemed to work. Our Little League coaches were of little help.

My experience with two young boys:
I tried different gurus for my oldest son now 11(Some of the major league experts). I can only tell you he lost all his "pop" with their advice/swing. I bought Jack's tape and practiced the heavey bag drills and within a week he was killing the ball. Buy the tape, learn the rotational mechanics, get some video or clips of Bonds, Sosa, Ramirez, Griffey study the swing. Take some video of you son htting the bag and then vidoe live swings. I started my youngest son at 8.
and he has a great swing. 8 is a great age to start. Hitting the bag is the secret (once you gain the knowledge).
