Re: Re: teaching is tougher than understanding

I coach a fairly talented bunch of h.s. hitters, but find that I can't teach the same to all. Each hitter is unique and though I try to give the same technique information I find I have to key on different things for each hitter to conquer success.1 hitter is a natural 5oo hitter with good batspeed and all I do is try to remind him to be selective in situations where they will pitch around him.Another is a power hitter 375avg,but wraps his bat because of a glitch in his load that we have to focus on.Another has M.L. batspeed, running speed ,and arm but some what brain dead,so I have to help him think at the plate on every pitch and because he tends to have more uppercut and foul the ball back alot,I must focus on him trying to hit the top of ball and going the other way.I have hitters who are poor when they try to pull then hit to all fields when I have them only try to hit the other way.No matter how consistent mechanics are from 1 good hitter to another they all have certain weaknesses and it takes different ideas from me their hitting instructor to help them get around their problem and succeed.

Do you do anything special to remind them or yourself of their flaws or the drills they need to work; for instance, a chart, or is it all just mental? Do you review video with them - does that help or hurt? If you've done this for a number of years you will see new kids that have the problem or flaw of a past player - and if you have it handy - you can review how you went about trying to fix it and what success you had or did not have.
