#1 is the Nyman absolute that you will accomplish your motor goal,so be careful to always construct the situation so the goal clear(this is a lot more difficult than it might sound.I think the overall goal should be as Aaron said-"I always try to hit the ball hard."

Within this you take the graduated/backward chaining type approach as demonstrated here,at setpro,in Epstein's stuff,etc.I would just say get as familiar as possible with these ideas and see what works best for you
