Rotational Hitting!

Posted by: KRSTRKZONE17 (SciKis@aol.com) on Tue Apr 22 12:42:32 2003

I have been on many websites that talk about hitting mechanics, and they all seem to be focusing on rotational hitting. While I do understand the importance of rotation in the swing, and realize that many hitters do not fully rotate, I am confused by the fact that translational movement is not being discussed. I feel that too much emphasis is being placed on rotation, while the significance of translational movement is being left out. All great hitting instructors have discussed both rotational and translational movement as being essential to the swing. Afterall, the book "The Physics of Baseball" does say that both are needed. Mike Epstein, who claims to be an advocate of the "Ted Williams style of hitting, talks about rotation, but does not stress forward movement(which Ted Williams talked about in great depth).
