Mel, I think what he's saying is it's common for young kids to not have a lot of stregnth (or maybe not know how to use the strength they have), so they wind up dragging the bat through the zone, thereby hiting the ball weak, late, and going opposite field.

Very uncommon to see a 8 year old really putting power to the swing, hitting level and out front. Most swing with arms only, drop the rear shoulder, and drag the bat.
