A long time ago, I heard some good advice from Willie Mays when he was asked how to hit the curve ball. He said the best way to hit the curve ball was to hit the fastball first. You can't sit on both pitches at the same time. He has seven HR's so he must be doing very well. Hit the fastball and take the curve. Pitchers can't throw the curve for called strikes anyhow. If and when he gets two strikes on him, encourage him to stay back and hit the ball up the middle. If he does this, he will be a pretty good two strike hitter also.
