Interesting thread...

The only reason I can think of for intentionally teaching to NOT stride is to eliminate directional error.. For me at least. I developed a huge mental/mechanical problem - I lifted my front foot to shift my weight - but when I lowered the foot I found that I couldn't stop myself from stepping inward (even by a few inches) - this caused me to hit off the handle and screwed up my swing. To combat this I've trained myself to make a much smaller lift in my lead foot which, I guess, is similar to not lifting it at all. It seemed to work and I keep the ball on the sweet spot, most of the time - darn mental obstacles!
