Oh, but people can actually hit the top of the ball. Pinella told Mattingly to bring the lead hand to the top of the ball and that you can practice in soft toss one hand drills.

My son can do it to 85 and even 90 mph and he is only 9 years old. He's been hitting about an hour a day since he was two and he can hit a grounder on an 85 mph pitch if you ask him to. His record for hitting pitches in a row without missing is 261 and he did that when he was five.
Remember, human beings play violins at about 20 times the athletic decisions a per minute that a ball player makes and that wonderful 1/4 inch in the very high register is 3 different notes. And you might have to play 32 of those notes in one second.

You can swing a bat to the top part of a ball; it isn't easy, but some people can do it.
