Re: Shortening the swing

Posted by: Doug () on Thu Jun 5 10:05:59 2003

I've been told to shorten my swing so I can get around on a D-1 Fastball. How can I do this and what does it mean? I have a lot of power but often do not make contact. I have to put the ball in play more to increase my playing time.

Frank, If your elbow goes into the slot as you start your swing, you should be shorter to the ball than if it does not. If the swing is long after contact, that is OK. Try to stay balanced from the start of your swing until the finish of the swing. Sit on the fastball and take the breaking ball until you have two strikes. With two strikes, just think about hitting the ball up the middle of the diamond.
