Re: Rolling wrists...

Posted by: thejuice32 () on Fri Jun 13 14:55:07 2003

I recently realized that I roll my wrists at impact. I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out how to eliminate this from my swing. Any tips or drills on how to work this out?

Brian-
At the end of any swing your wrists will naturally roll over when your body has completed its rotation, this occurs long after contact, however. This noted, You may be too far out in front of the ball, you are so far ahead of the pitch that when it reaches you your rotation has long since been completed and your hands are being forced to roll over because of the pull of your body back towards the catcher. Try waiting longer and focus on keeping your front shoulder in. Bonds says that he thinks about "punching the ball with an uppercut type punch" with his top hand, this will create, at contact, the back arm in an L shape with the top hand's palm facing up. never allowing your wrists to roll over at contact, which as we all know, is a cardinal sin of hitting.
