I don't think he specifically says this seperation is "torque as a force that is applied by the hands to the bat", but he and many others clearly feel that this seperation is part of the kinetic chain that ultimately will contribute to "a force that is applied by the hands to the bat".

Of course, I understand that you are not sold on the concept of the kinetic chain, and may I assume that you are also not convinced that the amount of shoulder/hip seperation is unimportant?
