Personal preference for the most part. Most hitters lauch from about the back shoulder or thereabouts. Anywhere above, below or away from this point causes disconnect and slop in most swings and causes inconsistency. Many hitters have different set ups where they start in different positions, but most all elite swings launch from very similar spots -- back shoulder. For younger hitters, starting in the launch position is many times easier to achieve an efficient swing.
