> My son recently attended a hitting clinic at a D1 college. He has always been taught to 'squash the bug' meaning his weight has ended up back, or at least somewhat middle at the end of his swing. But they are teaching to end up on the back toe (looks like a ballerina) which means that the majority of his weight has to end up on his front leg. He is totally confused and so am I. Help!

Hi David,

The advise that your son got from the college is wrong. They do not understand the sequence of the back foot if they want the finish on the tippy toe.

If your son swings correctly he should finish in the "squash the bug" position. However, his foot should get to the tippy toe "ballerina" position at the point of contact (only for a split second).

The foot should do this naturally and without forcing this action.

Try to finish in the "squash the bug" position, it promotes balance.

Jimmy
