Opening your stance is a good correctional idea for hitters who "bail out". Starting open forces you to step in and helps prevent pulling off the ball.

If a hitter bails out he needs to concentrate on waiting on the pitch. Hitters who bail out are usually either late, trying to pull prematurely and or trying to kill the ball. Starting open is a timing mechanism which enable a hitter to see the ball better initially. Starting open helps hitters who do not have a lot of power to have power to the pull field. This technique is more effective for the pitch that is down the middle or inside.
