Different animals. they both serve a separate purpose.

The bag is a tool that focuses on perfecting the body mechanics in the swing without the distraction of the hit. Focus is on what leads up to contact and maximizing the power generated. I would say it is feet, hips, torso, shoulders and arms. I don't use a regular bat with the heavy bag, I only use the pathfinder.

With the tee it's about addressing the ball. To me it's the next step after the bag. In addition to the above it's hands and arms too. Kids can have all sorts of bad form and still hit the ball off a tee.

The bag isolates the involvement of the body in the swing and helps build up correct muscle memory.
