Re: Hitting Live pitching

Posted by: DAve () on Mon Sep 1 19:20:51 2003

I have just completed a course on Coaching and a book called "Decision Training". Dr. J.N.Vickers an expert in Kinesiology has written this book on training an athlete through desicion training (live training or game situation training) in comparison to muscle memory training (repetitive training or phyical training). It is reported across many sports that training the athlete to make game situation choices instead of training repetitive motions is more beneficial in the long term. There are short term benefits to physical training over decision training.

To sum this up it means that having the batter have live pitching where the pitcher throws randomly selected pitches (like in a game) they will perform or learn more then having a pitcher throw the smae pitch over and over again until the hitter gains confidence.

It is a very interesting read.
