Torque

Posted by: Matt () on Fri Oct 3 14:14:41 2003

Hi Jack, in previous discussions, you've often explained the use of torque during inside and outside pitches. I've started to understand this pretty well after about two years of practicing rotational mechanics. However, in those two years, I don't recall ever seeing a discussion on this site about the elevation of pitches. In all my years of hitting I've hit high pitches well(to me high is belt to letters). However, I often top off low pitches weakly to the pitcher or second basemen(I'm a left handed hitter). Occasionally, when a hitter hits a lowball out of the park, you hear the announcer say, "this guy really knows how to drop the bathead and hit the lowball."

I was wondering what your advice would be to me on hitting the lowball. Should I practice "dropping the bathead," whatever the hell that means? Or should I simply use more of an uppercut?
