>>>Where can I find info on average bat speeds at varying levels.Ex: MLB, College, HS, LL etc.

It has been a measurable skill for years now but I can't find any listings or even a mention of this on the web?

Not even on this site?

Thanks,

Hi Dan

Thank you for the kind remarks regarding Batspeed.com. – I think you will find the reason no one, including myself, responded with information on average bat speeds is because there is not sufficient data available. The problem is that there is no accurate/consistent way to measure bat speed in terms of mph because most radar guns do not pick up bat speed at the moment of contact. Also, most radar units we tested gave readings reflecting the exit speed of the ball rather than bat speed.

During my studies of the baseball swing, I calculated the speed of the bat by the rate of angular displacement per video frame. We used the same method to measure bat speed when analyzing swing mechanics until recently when our SwingMate became available. Although there are about a thousand units in use, we have not received sufficient data in feedback to provide the information you are asking for.

Dan, I will look into the possibility of asking our SwingMate customers to supply us with data they have logged.

Best regards,

Jack Mankin
