Re: Rose swing analysis?

Posted by: rql () on Tue Nov 25 15:08:59 2003

There have been several threads recently that have pinpointed Rose as the prototypical singles hitter. Sandman was kind enough to allow us access to his baseball video collection (see http://www.youthbaseballcoaching.com/swings.html),and in that collection there is an excellent overhead shot of Rose, much like Coach Elliot in Jack's video. Can one of our distinguished baseball analysts who frequent this site please help me understand why that swing is a singles swing from the video, or another known Rose video? For example, Rose sure seems to have a circular hand path, but little if any top hand torque. (Maybe the video started too late to see it.) Why does he lack power? Is it the lack of pre-launch bat sweep that Jack has been referring to lately?

>I would like to see more clips of Rose to see if he consistently took rotational swings. However you can rotate and focus on line drives or think power and lift in the swing.I can think line drive and hit line drive or think drive the ball deep and get lift,it could be in his axis or just his posture to set his swing plane.
