Re: Andy vs. Barry attn : Nick & others

Donny,

Here is a quote from Jack last month:

“One of the major reasons for the lack of consistency while applying Pre-launch Torque is due to waves in the swing plane. These waves are the result of wrist-binds that occur when the batter accelerates the bat-head back toward the catcher, but in too vertical an angle that cuts down through the swing plane instead of sweeping behind the head and into the plane”

I think I see it in this swing. In the previous clip Andy took a better (IMO) approach to the ball, flattening the bat early. What I wondered about when I first saw this swing was whether Andy was (at that time) working with the Griffey Instructo Swing. I know they use it a tremendous amount at Clemson University and I have seen them at other Colleges I have visited. It definitely looks to me like “downward plane” type of a swing.

Games swings of course are the ultimate test and manytimes our swings are not perfect in games because of pitch locaion, timing and a host of other variables. The best hitters are those that can make something out of these imperfect at bats, which Andy clearly did here.

Nick
