Re: Wrist roll & top hand palm

Posted by: Rich () on Sat Dec 13 18:10:46 2003

What should the top hand palm orientation be at contact? Should the palm be up or should it be toward the pitcher. All reading material I have come across says a palm up results in a pop up & is a generally weaker position for the wrist to be in at contact. If a "palm facing" approach is used, what about wrist roll?

If your palm is facing the pitcher you have gone linear. it's impossible to have your palm facing the pitcher and have your back elbow in the proper slot which allows the torso to rotate at it's maximum speed. if you slow the torso down by going linear then you've slowed your batspeed down and now you've slowed the ball exiting your bat... oh, damn now the shortstop got to it in the hole and threw you out. had your batspeed been 10mph faster the ball goes threw the hole for a single.
The pop ups are a function of the placement of the bat on the ball. by getting the plane of the bat on the same plane of the ball pop ups will diminish... start learning how to use the front arm to accomplish this.
Wrist roll occurs immediatly after contact if you've hit it exactly at the moment all energy of the swing has been expired. if you do, it will feel like you hardly swung. and the ball will pop off your bat. keep at it... all the best, Rich
