I can't get the clip... can you tell if it was an inside pitch?? if it was i think having the heel hit at the same time enables him to rotate the front knee quicker which allows the hips to rotate quicker.
that gets his shoulders starting the swing sooner so he won't get jammed. this would jive with the theory that there is less THT on the inside pitch as the shoulder turn would interupt it sooner than on the outside pitch... just speculation on my part. take care, Rich
