John,

The clips are a compromise for the internet. However, I think they are adequate. You need a player such as apple quicktime for these clips. Quicktime allows frame by frame very nicely. You can download the free quicktime player at

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

The easiest thing to to then is right click on a clip and save it to your hard drive. Then open it with quicktime to play it frame by frame.
