Straightening out the front arm didn't hurt Albert Belle at all. Belle just moved off the plate a little and planted his front foot with slightly more open hips. However, he kept his shoulders closed as he landed the front foot. Juan Gonzales also reaches way back with the front arm. Did't hurt him either.

Don't bug your son about his front arm. Just make sure his shoulders are closed or at least square when he lands his front foot.

My son "locks" or straightens out the front arm when the hands and bat are taken back to the "power" or "trigger" position.
