i recently noticed yet another definition of the term, and i suspect that what hudgens said recetly on his site is what many coaches mean by this term...he said that the term means to literally strive to hit the inside part of the ball and that this will result in a "short swing"....

A ball with hook spin was hit on the outside, otherwise the ball was essentially hit in the back, with the back arm in the bent-L. I try to hit the back of the ball, not the inside or outside. However, some coaches feel that keeping the focus on the inside of the ball, will help eliminate casting or dropping the bat, which creates a looping swing. I don't agree with this approach, but for some it has worked. Personally, I want my hitters to feel their hands high throughout the swing, this has helped them to square the bathead to the ball much better and eliminate any lunging.
