tom....please bear with me on some of these more subtle details...eventually i will understand.....we spoke about the high elbow "assisting" the circular hand path....it seems to me that the SPECIFIC way the high elbow is assisting the circular hand path is this: using ramirez as an example, when the back elbow elevates to horizontal for aprox. 1/60th of a second, that specifically causes the bat to momentairily "wrap" that much more behind hitter's head....now, the only way to reverse direction & the bat to come around the head is for the hands to be forced to go out a little more than they otherwise might .....in other words, the high elbow ends up forcing a circular hand path.....i would appreciate your comments.....respectfully, grc...... hi grc, your ques. made me think about the elbow, could it be that when the elbow comes down from horizontal this pulls the top hand back starting the top hand torque as opposed to keeping the elbow down in the same position through the swing and then the fingers of the top hand must pull back the bat inorder to start the top hand torque.also when we put the bat against the back shoulder and back elbow is down it seems the torque doesnt come into play until right before contact.im trying to feel this and with the elbow high either the fingers pull back and lower the elbow or the lowering of the elbow will pull back the fingers for top hand torque.lowering the elbow seems more natural to me. RQL....i was kind of thinking the same thing....seems like "cocking" the elbow up for that split second has the effect of helping to get the top hand started outward....respectfully, grc....
