Vlad: A Pull Field "Orientee"

Posted by: BHL (Knight1285@aol.com) on Mon Apr 5 21:29:20 2004

Hi,

I just read a laconic, albeit post from Tom Guerry, who points out that Vladimir Guerrero gets great coverage, but does hit many pitches to the opposite field.

I agree with his assessment. In fact, one my posts last month brings Vlad's ability to pull outside pitches to the forefront.

Now, if we all follow his example, and attempt to pull outside pitches, home runs occur whether they are 340 feet, or 360 feet.

Hit these shots towards the left center alleyway, they are both outs.

Of course, Vlad has the athletic ability to hit 400+ shots to dead center.

I guess the rest of us can ascertain the same statistical results by making a conscious effort to pull every pitch. Mickey Mantle "swung for a home run every time at the plate," and has gained immortality. Why don't we all emulate him?

Therefore, let's pull every pitch we anticipate correctly over the fence!

Sincerely,
BHL
