My son got hit in the face last year and broke his nose. He wanted to get back in the game 2 days later, so fortunately we had no problem with this.

I would suggest to practice some soft toss with your son using a wiffle ball. That should get him swinging at a ball. Move up to a tennis ball & when he's comforable, go to the baseball.
