When the bat is accelerated too-vertically, its trajectory takes it down through the correct swing plane resulting in wrist binds, a reverse wrist roll and an inconsistent swing plane.

< I have long noticed the steep decent to the ball the Arod has.I just figured he was strong enough to get on plane. Here is a clip of Piazza where he starts with the bat more vertical( like Arod) but lays it off flatter going into toe touch as Jack describes as more appropriate.
