You articulate your thoughts very well. I would just make one subtle suggestion: long has the connotation increasing the degrees of bat-head rotation before contact (e.g., 180 degrees, as oppoes to 90 degrees), whereas wide pertains to having a larger initial diameter, which increases the bat-head weep. I would say that Bonds illustrates the former, and Mac crystallized the latter. Of course, Mickey Mantle incorporated both components into his swing, which is why he could hit the ball further than anyone.
