My Sentiments on Quickness / Bat-speed

There are also plenty of clips available for you to make your case.

I think Teacherman is attempting to make a distinction between a compact swing and bat-speed in point number two.

Some individuals attempt to make their swings compact by reducing the degree of angular dispacement the bat will undergo. However, if the ball is hit with 90 degrees of bat-head rotation, it will not travel as far as a ball hit with twice the amount of angular displacement. This means that balls hit with authority may "die" on the warning track.

On the other hand, a batter with 180 degrees of angular displacement swing is not as compact as the stroke with half the amount of angular displacement, but will generate more bat-speed. This is why batters with "longer swings" will hit the ball over the fence more often than batters with "shorter swings." The one disadvantage is that they may be late getting the barrel of the bat to the ball; however, due to amount of angular displacement the bat undergoes, even "jam shots" can lead to base hits.

Seen in this light, the latter has a clear advantage over the former.

Sincerely,
BHL
