Re: Weight back

Posted by: Coach C () on Wed May 19 09:29:47 2004

does a rotational hitter keep the weight back all the way through the swing or does the weight transfer to the center of the hitter as the barrel of the bat moves into the hitting zone? thanks.

Keeping the weight back is what hurts kids. The hands can stay back and in the interest of timing the move to the ball can be delayed with a toe tap or something, but at some point the weight must leave the back leg. Learning to step with the back foot (ever so softly and with tempo) and not jump with it is the key to fluid graceful movement. Percieved THT, BHT and any other term created are all created naturally by the proper move to the ball. Hands to the ball will make more sense when you put the body (lower half) in the right position.

Lower half body mechanics is where the swings go bad.....same thing in pitching.

There is no backswing in golf and there is no backswing in baseball...only the forward swing.....which then makes it not a swing at all.
