Hi Shawn

I think most readers of this site know the importance I place on the mechanics that produces a powerful rotation, the importance of staying connected to that rotation and the mechanics that generate a circular hand-path. Sure, applying torque at initiation and throughout the swing is a key component, but it is highly misleading of you to imply that the I believe “hands alone” are important in a good swing.

You stated, “I don't think there is any evidence either way. We have to assume one way or the other, meaning we have to assume that driving the hands forward results in lesser batspeed.” – There are many, many clips that show when a batter extends his hands forward at initiation, it results in a straighter hand-path and a disconnection from the rotating body. Both result in lowering of bat speed.
