Mr. Mankin have you ever seen Tom Emanski's video "Teaching the Mechanics of the Major League Swing II"? In that video Emanski discusses the concept of radial devition with regard to bringing the hands back while cocking the wrists in a launch position move. Would you say that this contributes to the top hand torque action? In that video it appears that he is trying to teach similar methods of hitting while rotating around the lead foot.
