Actually, it could work for anyone who has Ichiro's gifts. Incredible speed, bats LH, is able to placement hit to the opposite side.

Without those gifts, it can't possibly work. And yet many kids - accepting well meaning but unconsidered instruction - are learning to hit by pounding the ball into the ground.

Without world class speed, this is a very flawed strategy. And you can't teach speed, obviously. But almost ANYONE can learn to hit for reasonable power using rotational mechanics. I wish more would. . .

Ichiro is not just linear; he has a style unto his self. It’s more of a fast pitch softball left-hander slap style.
