see also Jack's reply above in the rotational axis thread.I think i would largely agree that usually you keep the lead elbow fairly fixed,however,it will straighten some near contact for outside and bend more for very inside near contact (handpath hook approaching contact is primarily through lead scap pincing/horizontal adduction/scap moving toward back bone or what jack calls unshrugging,but there can be some adjustment for very inside by more bend at elbow).
