Hi Mark

The first thing I look for from the side view is not how the swing was started. I look at the contact frame to see the results of the batter’s mechanics. If the batter applied efficient transfer mechanics, the bat will have been brought to contact as the shoulders depleted their rotation.

When the batter completes shoulder rotation but the bat is lagging back from contact indicates less efficient mechanics. The greater the degree of bat lag, the greater the problem. Then I look to see where the problem areas are.

Note: It requires about 3 torque horsepower to hit a baseball 400 feet. The arms can supply about 1/3 hp. Once the shoulder stops rotating, only the arms are left to bring the bat to contact.
