#3 Clarifications on Torque - hips/shoulders

Another type of torque came to mind last night. I believe that Epstein and perhaps others teach another version of torque that I don't recall seeing in your materials Jack. I think what Epstein teaches is the land with an open front foot thereby opening the hips slightly while the shoulders are still a little closed on the inward turn.

This, if I understand it correctly, would get the hips started first. I'm not sure exactly how this is taught but I'm curious if creating some lag with your shoulders is a good thing. Should we let the hips start first, getting a little ahead of the shoulders and then pulling the shoulders along? I'm assuming the shoulder turn would then catch up and actually pass the hip turn late in the follow through.

Epstein has a "torque drill" in which he fully opens the batters hips and closes their shoulders so they learn how that tension feels.

Does this benefit the swing or bat speed in your opinion?

Thoughts?

Thanks.
Jon
