you will understand what I mean. It appears as if the man is almost pushing the bat away from his body (with his back elbow slotted) in order to achieve a CHP.

You say that shoulder rotation accelerates the bat perpendicular to the flight of the ball, but shoulder rotation can also drive the bat directly forward--or linear mechanics. What other forces are being applied besides shoulder rotation? Do the arms deliberatly move the bat in this direction, perpendicular to the line of flight?
