Sure, he keeps his elbow tucked in and clears his shoulders and hips correctly, but the first movement of his hands are undoubtedly FORWARD, not perpendicular to the line of flight. This can be seen in the following video entitled, "10.17.2004 | Albert Pujols' two-run homer in first":
