I don't think it's too young. I suspect it's harder to introduce it when they are older. All 3 of my boys can switch hit. My two older sons (11 and 9) actually do it (selectively) in games. (We make an important point of not showing up the other team by doing so.) Here's what I did with my youngest son who just turned 7....He loves Ichiro and the Mariners. So we play little games in our backyard where I and my two older sons play the field while my youngest son bats. We go through the Mariners lineup. When Ichrio bats, for example, he hits LH. When Brett Boone is up he bats RH. He doesn't even realize he's learning to switch hit. He's just having fun. I would encourage you to do the same.
