I greatly appreciated seeing this comment.

Often I'll deal with a kid that lacks lead-arm extension (back towards the catcher) during their forward weight shift, but achieves lead-arm extension on their approach to 'contact'. You give a good explanation for why lead-arm extension should take place during the forward weight shift, and not afterwards.
