Julio Franco vs. everyone else

Surely you've all seen Julio Franco's patented batting stance, and his hands-over-his-head style. If not, here is a pic:

Jack, or anyone else, what do you think of this style of hitting? He pulls the bat back from exactly that position before he goes ahead and swings. Is it effective?
