hello john!!
so basically you are in agreemnt thahis athletic ability has waned to the point his success rate is no longer what it should be..
MY thought is that AS HE HAS AGED, THE HOLES IN HIS STANCE & SWING THAT PREVIOUSLY WERE OVERCOME BY HIS SUPERIOR ATHLETIC ABILITY..
ARE NOW EXPOSED!!
he USED to be able to generate enough batspeed to get there in time on pitches up in the zone.. now he cannot.. the solution would be for him to SIMPLY START WITH HIS HANDS UP AROUND EYE-HIGH.. FROM THERE HE WOULD BE COMING DOWNWARD ON A PITCH UP IN THE ZONE.. even if only the slightest bit, would be enough for him to start to drive those pitches instead of missing completely or fouling them off...
NEVER UNDERESTAIMTE THE POEWR OF GRAVITY!!
same with the bat waggle at the pitch release.. he would be in the same place at the same time on every pitch
