Tyler, the benefit is that it starts the bathead moving for you, having gravity help you. Having an 11 year old son myself, I know you just have to be careful that you don't pull the top hand back until you actually are starting your swing. I've seen too many kids drop the bathead back behind them as the start their stride, and then they have to drag the bathead -- which is now at a dead stop behind them (that is to say, pointing at the catcher's left shoulder) -- UP through the strike zone. Just make sure that you are using the THT to get the bat MOVING into its rotational arc.
