Seems to me that, if anything, you'd want to put the towel in your front arm pit...or perhaps a better way to say it is to put the towel between the front arm and left pec (for RH batter). This would seem to encourage body rotation and the attachment of the front arm to the pec area and would not allow the front elbow to break down and move toward the pitcher.
