He says the only thing that you need to be worried about concerning them is that you need to keep them as loose as possible. Won't the hands naturally swing with a slight loop if you use rotational hitting mechanics anyway?

Yep. Keep the hands loose and they automatically fling out into a circular path. The only thing you need to worry about with the hands, is guiding the bat into the plane of the incoming ball.
