Common misconceptions of rotational hitting

Posted by: Nick Pitts (rvphog44@yahoo.com) on Wed Feb 15 18:07:31 2006

Hitting is not a rotational vs. linear, black and white subject. While it is true that most mlb players use rotational hitting mechanics today, I feel that alot of coaches do not fully understand the significance the linear movements of the swing make. The perfect swing consist of a perfect combination of both.

Do you feel that to many people are focus on the mechanics of the swing itself and not the process leading up to the swing?
By process I mean, pre-pitch routine, having a plan at the plate. From their, Rhythm, to starting the hitting process, to the loading of the hands and hips. I don't feel it is a coincidence that 99.9%percent of major league hitters are in the same position to start their swing. If we would teach these things correctly, the hips and hands will take care of themselves more times than not.

Do you feel the same way?
