Barry Bonds Hitting Drill

Posted by: Ogie (ogie191@sbcglobal.net) on Tue Feb 28 13:32:02 2006

I don't know how many of you saw SportsCenter Sunday night/Monday morning (2/26,2/27), but they had a segment on Bonds taking a Giants AA player under his wing and helping with his hitting. They showed some video of Bonds instructing the kid which included a soft toss drill where Bonds soft-tossed and the AA player caught. I will try and explain the set-up... hitter's bottom hand resting at his side, hitter's top hand partially raised with palm facing out. Ball is soft-tossed with hitter using rotational motion and catching ball with top hand in front of the plate. I have never seen this drill before, I was wondering what the teaching points were for this drill. Has anyone used this drill before? How does it help? Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciatted.

Thanks,
Ogie
