Re: No stride!

Posted by: Chris O'Leary (chris@chrisoleary.com) on Tue Mar 7 19:25:53 2006

Last year I had a 10U power hitter introduce a stride into his swing and all it did was cause him to slide under the ball and left him unable to hit anything.

I taught him to unload his front foot by picking up his heel while keeping his toe on the ground and suddenly he was able to hammer the ball again.

> My son hits from a very tall stance with his feet about shoulder width apart. He effectively transfers his weight without a stride, just a slight turn of the front foot. The closest pro that I find is Ken Griffey Jr. Coaches seem to think he needs to stride. I, however, think that most kids overstride which causes their eyes to move to a lower plane. Any thoughts?
